Film Courage: What have you found is the best way to make money as a filmmaker?

Van: Get involved in anything that’s possible that will help you get better as a filmmaker whether it’s editing, PAing, writing. Shoot…taking any job because that helps you as a writer. Be a security guard, be a bus driver, be an Amazon Prime delivery[person] because you’re building different experiences and you could write about that and still have a living and only until you reach that kind of threshold where you can make a sustainable career with your art or with your filmmaking but when you’re starting out you take as many jobs as you can. Teach if you can (teaching helps), any kind of thing. I think you just have to hustle. Find any job to survive, pay the bills and if you can do that, that actually teaches you how to get a film made because it’s not getting a film made, it’s the exact same way because it’s not easy.
