Film Courage: What do you consider professional writing habits? 

Brandon Violette, Screenwriter / Founder and Host of The Story Series Podcast: Professional writing habits, staying in motion. 

Understanding the power of doing the thing and allowing yourself to be mediocre, bad, all that stuff. 

That is part of it. 

Knowing that you will make it better. 

Also following up, all that stuff that people don’t always love to do. 

Sending emails, letting people know that you’d love to get coffee, that career building stuff is a big part of professional habits. 

Just because you’ll naturally develop a network over time and friendships too. 

It’s just maintaining those as best you can. 

And then I think acceptance, like we talked about, accepting the waiting, accepting the things outside of your control.

I call that a habit because it’s something you’re going to have to remind yourself a lot of. 

That’s important, those kinds of top professional habits. 

Taking things in, just a love of movies, TV, books, the things that got you to fall in love with what you’re doing in the first place.

Brandon Violette was most recently the Head Writer for RoboGobo and Pupstruction at Disney Television Animation and the Co-Creator/Head Writer of CoComelon Lane (Moonbug/Netflix), one of Netflix’s top-performing preschool series. His writing credits span hit shows including Dew Drop Diaries (DreamWorks), Pupstruction (Disney Junior), T.O.T.S. (Disney Junior), Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go! (Mattel), and Stretch Armstrong & The Flex Fighters (Hasbro Studios). 

In addition to his screenwriting work, Brandon is the host of The Story Series Podcast, where he interviews writers, showrunners, filmmakers, author and creators about story structure, character development, pitching and the creative mindset. 

Before moving to Los Angeles, Brandon studied at the Beijing Film Academy and continues to return to China as a guest lecturer, sharing insights on storytelling, animation, and the global landscape of entertainment.
