The Streaming Gold Rush
If you go back 20 years ago, you had this incredible boom time because you had the birth of the streamers, Amazon and Netflix and then others.
They needed to create just an abundance, endless abundance, of original content because they need to attract people to sign up for Amazon or Netflix and stay on the membership, keep paying the monthly membership.
So they needed new content.
All the time that people wanted to consume and they had deep, deep pockets.
HBO vs. The New Giants
There was so much money in Hollywood.
Just to give a little bit of an example, back then HBO, their entire budget for the year for original content was about a billion dollars.
Netflix and Amazon were collectively spending over $50 billion.
Then everyone else had to up their game.
There was just so much money.
The “Golden Era” for Talent
Literally, I would get phone calls or texts every day from at least one of my writers, who just got signed by an agent or a manager, which is the precursor usually for a career or just sold a script or just got hired on to a TV show.
It was so crazy.
Low Barriers to Entry
I remember this one student I had, Jennifer, and she had this blog, and it wasn’t super popular.
I think it had a couple thousand followers.
