No matter what type of movie it is, it needs to have an opening that grabs you.
I almost always know the endings.
Ooh, I’m writing! Where’s this going to go?
The first week you don’t even investigate structure.
In every story there are two plot points.
My outlines are about 25 pages to 30 pages long.
When I would take baths, being submerged in water made me think of ideas.
Allow it to come out of your heart and onto the page.
I used to just jump right into it and start trying to write it, which is not the best way of doing it.
We needed this 3 months ago and you’re still just kind of wandering in the weeds.
As a writer, if you’re writing and not getting the results you want, what writers do is they either quit or they just double down and keep writing scripts thinking Well, you’ve got to be in the right place at the right time and they keep writing and they create a pile of similarly flawed scripts.
Process, process, process. You have to improve your process.
The great Bruce Springsteen needed an adjustment in process. So who can do that for you? Managers can do that for you, mentors, writers or if you don’t have the money or you don’t have the time, you’re fortunate to live in a time when there’s so much free digital content.
