Film Courage: Is it a good idea for a filmmaker to pitch a distributor their idea before they pitch an investor their idea?
Jeff Deverett, Film Producer, Entrepreneur, Writer, Director: Excellent idea, it’s the best idea. I will tell you why — because if they can get a distributor interested it will make the pitch to the investors so much easier. Because a smart investor the first question they’re going to ask is not What’s the movie about? Frankly they don’t care, they’re going to ask How are you going to sell it? How much are you going to make with it? That’s what investors care about, it’s called Return On Investment (ROI).
The answer to that question is Funny you should ask that because I actually have a distribution deal and I’ve got sales forecasts here and this is what we think we’re going to make from it, from this legitimate distributor who has been in this business for 25 years and know what they’re doing.
