Film Courage: Why do you think people take advice from non-working professionals in the entertainment industry?
Dar Dixon, Actor: Ah…why do they? I don’t know? I think that is another big question but that is not smart to take advice from someone who is not doing well in whatever it is that they’re doing.
There are always temporary setbacks and lulls, there’s ebbs and flows. But I mean to take acting career advice or to take writing advice from a banker? It’s an interesting choice. I don’t know if that is the most resourceful choice to take acting advice from your mother who is a clinical psychologist? Maybe a little more resourceful but I don’t know if that is the best choice at all because you would make more sense to take advice from someone who is doing it and succeeding at it no matter what level it is at.
You know maybe you’ve pushed back and I hear that a lot when I talk about transmedia and business and money Well I just want to create cool stuff. So do I man, so do I. I also want to be compensated for it, really, really cool compensation right? Like more than a bowl of soup and a hat.
So I don’t know why people do that but specially with actors that happens a lot, a lot. I suppose it happens…I mean that’s not fair it probably happens to everyone in this business more often than it doesn’t. And I think it’s just where you are reaching, you are grasping at straws. You’re just Anyone! Somebody! You know?…(Watch the video interview on YouTube here).
