Film Courage: How long did it take you to write the script for BROKEN CEILING [Adam’s feature film]?
Adam Davis, Writer/Director: It took me about a month to write the first draft. And then I would say another month and a half of rewrites to really get it to a filmable spot.
Film Courage: Where would you write it?
Adam: At home in my office on my computer.
Film Courage: Knowing you had a day job and you knew what time you could work on it, did you set specific times?
Adam: It was pretty much when I get in the zone of writing, I need to do it every day.
I found myself coming home, having dinner, talking with my wife, then going to write, and then going to bed. Waking up, going to work, doing that same thing again until the thing was completed.
There were points where I would do it in the morning as well as the night. I would wake up in the morning because my head was just like burning like I’ve got to get this stuff out there.
So I’d wake up, write, go to work, come home, eat, write, go to bed…etcetera.
Film Courage: Do you finish most everything that you start?
Adam: Yes, I do. Because to not finish something really bothers me. It’s tough seeing half written scripts. I don’t actually have any non written scripts. They are all written, not to say that they are all great or that they don’t need rewrites because a lot of them do but I need to have that full 90-to-100 pages or whatever done.
With projects I definitely won’t start something that I can’t finish because…(Watch the video interview on Youtube here).
Writer/Director Adam Davis has created numerous short films and has half a decade of professional on-set experience. The short films that he’s written, directed, produced and edited have garnered first place wins in various film festivals around the country since 2002. In total, his short films have won 13 top awards.
In 2016, Adam self-financed his debut feature film that he shot in just 4 days. BROKEN CEILING found distribution in 2018 and opened to stellar reviews from The Los Angeles Times. The film is now available on iTunes, Amazon, TubiTV and many other VOD services where it’s receiving rave reviews from the public.
Adam and his writing partner, Will Corona Pilgrim, successfully Kickstarted a horror/action short film titled NO TOUCHING, which stars Zoë Bell, Heidi Moneymaker, Jake Busey, Tracie Thoms, Kevin Daniels and Doug Jones. It has amassed over 1 million views on YouTube and Facebook.
Adam’s most recent project is a short film called LOSING SIGHT, about a man struggling with the new life he’s forced to live as a blind man.
