A Filmmaker Can’t Build A Business Plan Around Winning An Oscar by Houston Howard

Film Courage: We can see how transmedia would work for a million dollar ad campaign, but for a low-budget film, for someone who is an independent filmmaker maybe working with a six-figure budget, how can they incorporate transmedia? It seems like it’s almost out of the picture for them?

Houston Howard:  You would think…I think this is one of the biggest misconceptions of transmedia is that…and partly it’s my fault because I talk about large projects, STAR WARS, HARRY POTTER, things like this. We look toward all the Marvel stuff that’s going on now (the way they design their projects) is tremendous for the audience experience and the only reason that they do that, the only reason that these projects are rolling out the way they are rolling out is because the market has an appetite for it.

They are proving the fact that the audience wants that type of a project, something that is a never-go-dark experience. So after the movie, I still should be able to go home and experience more stories somewhere else…(Watch the video interview on Youtube here).
