Film Courage: Do you have a favorite story?
Adam Argot, Story Artist/Instructor/YouTube: I collect stories, so I’m fascinated by stories in general, but I’ve noticed that there are stories that hit me at a certain time that just keep repeating themselves.
They keep coming back up almost like it’s some part of the well that I keep going back to and dipping from.
One for some reason, the story of the Minotaur just keeps pulling me back in.
I think it’s because in a lot of ways it kind of deals with archetypes that still resonate today.
This whole idea of this bastard child that’s a monster.
This king who seems to have everything and he just can’t seem to let it go.
Then suddenly his wife is seduced by this bull and gives birth to this monster and then rather than just kill the bastard, bastard in the literal sense, not in the swear word sense.
Rather than kill the child, the monster, he employs Daedalus.

This is King Minos employs Daedalus to build this labyrinth to hide the monster away.
That kind of lurking creature that’s some sort of reconciliation that’s eventually going to catch up to the king just fascinates me.
The interesting thing is years ago when I had lived in Mexico I had attended the running of the bulls and it had this really profound effect on like seeing the way this culture kind of was a new culture for me.
I was living in Mexico for a few years and seeing that people were celebrating having the unleashing these bulls into the wild into the streets and having everyone run…(Watch the video interview on YouTube here).
