Film Courage: How often do you receive screenplays?
Shaked Berenson, Producer/Filmmaker: Probably during this interview I received maybe five or six.
Film Courage: While you’re sitting here?
Shaked: Yep. I’m probably getting one right now in my email or once somebody actually tweeted me line after line. It comes from every direction.
You know how many of them I read?
What if you remove every scene from this story except the intro of the main character?
Film Courage: That was my next question.
Shaked: Zero. I read zero of them.
Film Courage: You read zero. So, do you have a no screenplay policy?
Shaked: First of all, you don’t expect unsolicited material and there is a legal reason for that. Sometimes you have people, this is the funny part, that people like,
Oh you know I have a great script but you need to sign an NDA to read it.
It’s like
No, you don’t understand, you need to sign my NDA
Because ideas are in the zeitgeist. People think it’s my original idea because people confuse the word original because it’s original.
It’s not based on something right, it came in their head.
