Film Courage: What are some steps we can take to realign with our purpose and our values?
Laverne McKinnon is a Career Coach, Certified Grief Recovery Specialist, Professor and Producer: I love this question! In terms of realigning with values, I would say two things. One is to think about a time in your life where things felt really sweet, wonderful, resonant and then what were the values that were being honored in that moment in time?
Then on the flip side, What’s making you grumpy? What’s making you upset? That means that a value or values are being stepped on. Then you can course correct and say I can now honor this value instead of having it stepped on. Simple, not easy in terms of purpose.
Something that I see very commonly is that people conflate job and career with purpose. I just want to repeat that your job and your career is not a manifestation of your purpose. I mean it’s a manifestation of your purpose, your purpose is not your job. In your career, a realignment on that front is to almost rise above your job and your career and ask:
–Why am I doing this?
–What’s the impact
–Why am I drawn to doing this?
-How can I manifest that in other ways?
