Film Courage: Do you recommend aspiring screenwriters begin writing novels?
Andrew Warren, Author: Yes and no. Certainly I think there are benefits from exploring different kinds of writing. Most of my leaps in terms of craft for any writing usually came from exploring other kinds of writing, applying things I learned. I think I gave you a couple earlier for searching my screenplays for L-Y to eliminate adverbs, that came from a book about writing novels. But I also think applying that kind of screenplay structure to my novels is what gives them that cinematic quality that the readers seem keen to. So I think it’s certainly worth trying. I think if you enjoy it, go for it. If you don’t enjoy it, I don’t think you should punish yourself…(Watch the video interview on Youtube here).

Andrew was born in New Jersey, and studied film and English at the University of Miami. He has over a decade of experience in the television and motion picture industry, where he has worked as a post production supervisor, story producer, and writer. He currently lives in Southern California.
