Film Courage: What are five things a director should never do on set?
Adam: Yell.
Film Courage: Unless it’s “Action!”
Adam: Yeah but even that, do you need to yell it? Are you going to rattle the actors right before they’re supposed to act? I don’t know, I’m all about the quiet action.
Line readings, don’t do that. Just be specific with the actors. Be like Okay, cry now. Now you’re going to cry. Ready…cry. Give them something. Explain the situation. Actors want you to explain the situation to them rather then give them the result. I think that’s key.
