Film Courage: Why do you say that the life of an artist is lunacy?
Nick Morton, Writer/Producer: I guess I find as someone who now I see myself largely as a memoirist at the moment.
So every experience I have I’m sort of running it through this lens of What does the experience mean in the larger narrative of my life?
I do this podcast sometimes called Inside the Episode where I talk about my own life as though I am its showrunner.
I think the compulsion to create stuff especially outside of financial success in our society feels kind of crazy.
To put yourself out there as an artist and never reap financial rewards for it feels crazy in our society.
Because I feel like our value system is so dependent on capitalism and financial success that there’s constantly this question of Why…why do you feel compelled to create things?

I don’t have the answer to it.
I do find sometimes that after I’ve made a video or I’ve written something on Substack that the audience’s response is super satisfying.
Certainly that Hollywood Reporter piece when everyone was reading it was delightful to have an audience completely engaged in my work understanding it…(Watch the video interview on YouTube here).
