Film Courage: Do you like to write screenplays?

Deborah Correa, Filmmaker: I like to work with writers in a more collaborative creative role like creating scenes and the character dynamics and the character arcs and that kind of thing. I like that.

That to me is very enjoyable.

Currently with Ron Yungul, he wrote The War Between.

He’s a very…I don’t want to call him solitary, but he loves his alone time and he really pours himself into his writing.

So with him, it was more of a director/writer relationship throughout the entire process of that.

He would talk about it and talk through it and we would discuss certain story points and certain characters and how I would visualize it and what his motivations were with writing about it and it was more like that with him with that with the most recent film.

Film Courage: That’s interesting because you said in our last segment that you love being on set.

You love the collaborative aspect to it and that maybe being behind a desk is maybe not as much your favorite, but so that’s interesting that with Ron, he loves being alone and how those two…(Watch the video interview on YouTube here).

Deborah Correa is an award-winning Colombian-American producer and director. Her feature directorial debut, The War Between, was shot entirely on location in Arizona. After graduating from Emerson College, Deborah was chosen for the prestigious AFI Directing Workshop for Women. Her work spans television, film, and podcasts, with both narrative and documentary projects. Her credits include PBS, History Channel, Spotify, Travel Channel, Paramount+, Brave New Films, and Hulu. While working on the History Channel series The Warfighters, Deborah worked with over 90 U.S. Special Operations veterans who were both in front of and behind the camera. She continues to work with veterans in telling their stories.
