Film Courage: What is layer one of writing a story and why do you say that many writers never seem to go beyond this point?

I present this thing, I call it The Story Iceberg.
I pulled it from this old medieval approach for exegesis.
It has four different layers.
It’s my metaphor that I use to kind of adapt this ancient medieval catchphrase which is basically it started as a way of interpreting scripture.

It was a way that monks would use to try and do exegesis to interpret what the intention of God’s voice through telling these stories was.
But ultimately that began what I believe was the foundations of psychology of studying the meaning of metaphor and the meaning of the unconscious, what our unconscious, what our intuitions are trying to tell us.
And I don’t care if you believe in God or not.
