THE GOAL OF DEFINING “STORY”
Film Courage: What are the three story principles that must be in every scene?
Adam Argot, Story Artist/Instructor/YouTuber: First, I wanted to boil it down to what is a story and what is not a story.
Because technically, everyone has all these different ideas, but it kind of came down to, are you familiar with Lawrence Kohlberg, the psychologist?
Film Courage: No.
Adam: He developed this idea of stages of moral development.
THE PSYCHOLOGICAL FOUNDATION (KOHLBERG & PIAGET)
It was based on [Jean] Piaget. Piaget had this idea of like stages of maturation.

EXPANDING THE SCOPE (INCLUSIVITY & GILLIGAN)
In studying Kohlberg, and then also Carol Gilligan, took that paradigm and then expanded it not to just little boys but to people of all races and genders and everything.
BRIDGING PSYCHOLOGY AND NARRATIVE
What was interesting was this idea of the maturational development, well in this case, of specifically morals.
I started thinking about that in terms of story.
