Film Courage: Anthony, your trailer for the Last Shift has millions of views combined. Why do you think it’s so popular?
Anthony DiBlasi, Filmmaker: When I sought out to make the Last Shift I wanted to scare people, that was my main [objective].
I had done other you would call thrillers in the genre but I think Last Shift was my first real horror film.
My intention was I just want people to watch this movie and be terrified, that was my goal so the plot was very simple.
Over the years it got just good word of mouth and people were like This is actually a scary movie.
It got a cult following. I think people are still revisiting it now.
It’s one of those films when I grew up you could go to the video store and rent a movie you could tell your friends,
Hey, you’ve never seen this movie, you should watch this, you’ll get excited.
When you get to share a movie with someone they haven’t seen, Last Shift still has that.

Even in today’s day you can still tell your friends Oh, you’ve never seen Last Shift? We should watch this together, you’re going to have a blast.
I think that’s why it’s continued to have legs.

Anthony DiBlasi graduated film school at Emerson College in Boston MA. Upon moving to Los Angeles he became a protégé of filmmaker/novelist Clive Barker. DiBlasi partnered in Barker’s production company Midnight Picture Show for nearly ten years, serving as a key executive & producer on films such as “Midnight Meat Train” (2008) and “Book of Blood” (2009). DiBlasi made his directorial debut with the psychological thriller “Dread” (2009), a feature film he wrote based on the Clive Barker short story of the same name. “Dread” was released theatrically in January of 2010 and went on to win Best Independent Feature at the 2010 Spike Scream Awards. He directed and co-wrote “Last Shift” a critically acclaimed supernatural horror film released by Magnolia Pictures in 2015. And directed “Extremity” a psychological thriller based on Extreme Haunts, released in 2018 by Epic Pictures.
