Film Courage: Can you talk about developing ideas for your films?
Sophia Cacciola, Cinematographer, Actor, Musician, Director: I work with my partner Michael J. Epstein. Because we live together, we consume all the same media and often talk constantly about ideas and things.
We often comment on the same ideas at the same time, I don’t know why, we’re one brain. We’ll start talking about ideas, what we want to do next, what kind of ideas we have.
Then usually he goes off and we’ll write an outline or a treatment or a script for it.
Then I come back around and I’m like
Okay, I like this.
I don’t like that.
Let’s fix this.
Let’s punch this up.
That’s kind of our process of going back and forth through the edits.
It’s not like he writes totally in isolation. We’ve talked about things mostly before he ever sits down. We’ll talk about where the story is going.
He is always annoyed with me because I come up with scenes. I’m like
This is the movie!
And it’s like one scene.
He’s like,
It’s not a movie yet…(Watch the video interview on YouTube here).
