Rory Karpf, Filmmaker: Did I talk about where they wanted to fire me from I Hate Christian Laettner?
Film Courage: Maybe not.
Rory: I don’t think I told that. So I Hate Christian Laettner was a really big opportunity. As you’re working, you kind of get these little steps, you can keep going.
I had done a 30 for 30. I did one of the original 30 for 30s and it was not viewed, not many people saw it. It was about this race car driver Tim Richmond who died of AIDS [Tim Richmond: To the Limit]. I think it was like number 26 in the list, but it wasn’t one of the more popular ones.
Then I did The Book of Manning and that was very popular.

I turned in the first rough cut and I remember the executive contacted me, John Dahl. He was coming back from Hawaii. It was New Year’s and he said, “I would like to say watching the film made my trip go faster, but it did just the opposite.” And he just told me how disappointed he was in the cut. Here I am thinking like I did something good.
This is what you have to understand about me, in general I’m a slow starter of everything. I never start out well, but I end well. Again, going back strong ending…(Watch the video interview on YouTube here).
