Film Courage: How do you go about finding financing for your projects?
Rory Karpf, Filmmaker: All different kinds of ways. I mean the traditional way for financing is you pitch a project and you get either a company or a streamer to fund it for you. You go out and pitch.
It’s never been more difficult to go that route. You have to have something that is undeniable. What does that mean? At least in the unscripted world is where I’m pitching a lot. You have to have something that people just feel like is a known entity or the story is so wild, like How could it go wrong? There’s not a lot of risk taking as far as taking a chance on something that might not sell.
True crime is going to sell. Traditionally big biopics on known figures, especially in sports follow docs of a team or somebody, a celebrity. Those are the things traditionally in unscripted that sell.
