Film Courage: For anyone starting out and they’ve never made an action film before but they’re serious about making one and they want to make several, what are some essentials they need to know?
R. Ellis Frazier, Director, Producer, CEO at BADHOUSE Studios: One of the essentials is definitely going to be safety. You have to understand how, if you’re going to do things like for example with guns, explosions, anything that has to do with things that can be somewhat dangerous, you have to understand how to approach your day with the safety elements in mind.
You can’t think Well, I’m going to shoot off 10 rounds. You have to recycle the gun, recycle the way that you have to set up your day to do things like pyrotechnics, fight scenes, blood, things like that.
You have to take a certain amount of time the way you organize your day so you have to know when you’re looking at a scene, How will I get this done in the time frame that I need to get it done in without having to do too much compromise?
When I say safety, I mean everything has to be recycled in action. You can’t just do it and then do it again. You have to do it and then do all the safety stuff and then do it again.
You have to plug that into the way that you schedule your day. I think that’s probably the biggest one.
The second one is that you have to realize what your limitations are and learn to work the limitations and not try to do something that’s bigger than you can do because it won’t look right. You have to be able to say I can do this but I can’t do that and then if you try to do this bigger and it can look cheesy and it…(Watch the video interview on YouTube here).
