Film Courage: Is it correct that you used to read a book a day?
Sammy Horowitz, Action-Actor, Stuntman, Playwright, and Screenwriter: Yes, unless it was a really big book and it might have taken me two days.
Film Courage: War And Peace or something?
Sammy: I’ve never read War And Peace but yeah something like that would take me a really long time.
Film Courage: Can we talk about why you would read a book a day? Where would you find the time?
Sammy: I was in prison and so when I had that type of appetite for reading and I had the time in solitary confinement I read all day, that’s what I did.
Film Courage: And I understand that you loved Anne Rice, vampire stories?
Sammy: I loved all of Anne Rice’s books about vampires and The Vampire Lestat, Interview With The Vampire.
I read I don’t remember how many books there was at that time, at least I don’t know, seven or eight books in that series that I really got into it.
Film Courage: But you weren’t into let’s say crime novels? You wanted an interesting, different world?
Sammy: I read some crime novels. My family would send me books. My dad had a buddy who would give him a bunch of books and then he would ship them to me or my mother would ship them to me. I would have a…(Watch the video interview on YouTube here).

Before moving to Hollywood, Sammy was a member of a predominantly Latino street gang and spent almost a decade in prison.
