Film Courage: How long did it take you to raise your full budget for Off Rip?
Jadon Cal, Filmmaker/Actor/Screenwriter: Our full budget for Off Rip I would say it took us…well I wrote the script in 2020. We started making pitches and videos and trying different avenues of getting the film made, attaching talent etcetera, until we got it funded in 2022, the end of ’22 and the beginning of ’23. It was about two and a half three years to get the initial seed money.
Then the seed money grew and got a couple other people involved into early 2023 and then shot the movie in March and April of 2023. So two and a half, three years.
Film Courage: And where did the initial money for your feature Off Rip come from, the seed money?
Jadon: So the funny thing is Jake [Jalbert] and I always see ourselves as already having money because at the end of the day like Mind Games, we can make the film, we don’t actually need money. The way we like to pitch movies and talk about it to collaborators, investors, etcetera is Hey, this is the movie we’re making. We’re going to shoot it next March and on this date. If you’d like to be a part of it, let us know we’re going to be shooting it so regardless if we get money or not we’re making the movie. We’ve made a plan of how we were going to make the movie with a couple Blackmagic cameras and just all local actors…(Watch the video interview on YouTube here).
