Nobody Cares About Your Ideas (The Truth About Your Movie) – Jake Jalbert

Jake Jalbert Film Courage video interview

Film Courage: Jake, I’ve heard you say nobody cares about your idea. You say you’d get these emails and Hey, I’ve got this great idea and I’m going to need six figures to make it and you kind of just said nobody cares about your idea.

Jake Jalbert, Cinematographer/Filmmaker: Yeah, that’s great, go make it. Go make your idea. Everybody’s got ideas. I have a ton of ideas. People come to me with ideas. People want to come to me to get their project made. I’m not going to make your project, you have to go make it. So that’s what I tell people. It’s no different from what I would do, just get the process started.

I love that they’re reaching out to me. I want people to reach out because I’m happy to help obviously. I’ve grown a lot since then but you can’t just have an idea, you have to go do something about it.  I think that’s the biggest message is just do something about it. Take 1,000 bucks, invest $500. Create a five minute short film and then boom! You’ve got something going. It’s not an idea anymore. Put it on YouTube.

Film Courage: What do you do with the other $500…(Watch the video interview on YouTube here).

About:

Jake Jalbert began his journey into producing and cinematography 14 years ago, shooting his first feature film, *House Guest Massacre* (2013), starring Alex Vincent from the *Child’s Play* franchise (as Andy Barclay). Over the years, he’s worked his way up by contributing to numerous films and TV shows, collaborating with actors such as Burt Reynolds, Amy Smart, Sean Astin, Michael Shannon, Alexander Ludwig, and Charles Melton. From 2020 to 2024, Jake served as Director of Photography on several films, beginning with *Mind Games*, starring A-list talents Robert LaSardo, Jim Fitzpatrick, and Michael Paré, as well as *Soulmates*.

Jake was later hired to shoot two studio films, *Megaboa* and *Shark Waters*, both of which had small theatrical releases through The Asylum, the studio behind the *Sharknado* franchise. In addition, Jake was the cinematographer for the Tubi original film *DC Down*, directed by Geoff Meed and starring Eric Roberts and Sean Young.

In 2023, Jake produced and shot his most ambitious project to date, *Off Rip* (Sports/Drama), directed by and starring Jadon Cal, which is currently in post-production.
