Film Courage: What is a meet-cute?
Jason-Shane Scott, Actor/Screenwriter: Well, essentially it’s the first time that our two leads, that we know we’re going to end up together, meet for the very first time and it’s sort of been established in romcoms that it’s a little better if that’s a cute way of meeting, sort of a different way of meeting.
Film Courage: Can you give us some examples of the cliché meet-cutes that are often used?
Jason: We see a lot of bumping into one another, a lot of mistaken identity is a very big one. One person thinks somebody is somebody else. Typically a clash or a conflict is a strong one where we tell right away these two people are very different and we see it from that first meeting, so it’s not so cute.
Film Courage: Taking a parking space or cutting in line or something like that?
Jason: Exactly yeah, cutting in line, doing something opposite of each other’s behavior is a good setup for a good meet-cute…(Watch the video interview on YouTube here).
