Film Courage: What is purpose?
John Vorhaus, Author/Speaker/Artist/Screenwriter: Purpose according to my understanding is the stuff that makes life worth living, the things that one does, that one looks at and says in doing that I feel in harmony with myself. In doing that I feel like I’m doing what I should be doing.
Or looking back on it in the past, I can say that was an action that made my life rise or my life have meaning.
It’s a little slippery because anything can be purpose. Examples range from parenthood, one might say My purpose is to have children, pass on my genetic information and philosophy and beliefs to the next generation. That’s a legitimate aspect of purpose.
Someone else might say, My purpose is to be as outrageous as possible and make people question the way they live their lives. Completely valid purpose.
My purpose, me John Vorhaus, my purpose is to instruct. When I’m in situations where I’m communicating information that I think will be of benefit to the people I’m sharing that information, that’s when I feel as though I am fulfilling my purpose.
