Film Courage: Is Tubi the best free streaming platform in the US?
J. Horton, Filmmaker/Youtuber/Podcaster: I think Tubi…I really feel awkward telling anyone that this is the best orthis is the worst.
In general terms, yes. Tubi is, for independent filmmakers right now anyway in the last couple of years, in general terms, it is the best platform to make some money off independent films, especially smaller independent films, absolutely. The AVOD [advertising-based video on demand] market has just totally exploded. Tubi is awesome. I mean YouTube’s coming up in it. We can talk about that a little later.
What’s the other one? Freevee is starting to do really well for some people but Tubi, it’s created its own little ecosystem. They call them Tubi movies now. Whether it’s a Tubi original or not.
There are Facebook groups that are dedicated to it. There’s a few of them that have 500,000 people or a million people and these posts get interaction. I have never seen a horror group, I’ve seen them with that many people, but I’ve never seen that kind of interaction. It is insane.
Tubi right now for the past three (maybe four years) at least for me, is my top earning platform by a good margin, by at least 25%
Prior to that, it was Amazon and then YouTube started taking off…(Watch the video interview on Youtube here).
