Film Courage: What is your archetype John?

John Bucher, Writer and Narrative Consultant: I embody a number of archetypes and I’m going to frame this in a couple of different ways. 

One of the archetypes that I embody is an archetype found in the tarot and that is The Magician. The Magician is someone who brings things into being that weren’t there before. The similar way that with magic we have there’s nothing in my hand, there’s something in my hand and there’s nothing again, bringing things from one plane of existence to another. That I feel is what I try to do with the stories that I tell, to bring ideas from one plane of existence into this world that we share together. 

Another archetype that I embody is that of The Child. This is an archetype that Carl Jung talked a lot about and the archetype of The Child is that sense of wonder, that sense of seeing the world through fresh eyes. It certainly has a shadow side as well where sometimes that archetype can be a problem for you, can be your own worst enemy as well. Embodying that archetype means that sometimes I see the world a bit too simplistically and I have to remind myself that the world is more complex than the eyes of The Child might see. 

There’s a third archetype that I feel strongly is me and that archetype I explain is someone who can’t help but hope. It is an archetype that carries many names and many descriptions but it is someone that can’t help but see the…(Watch the video interview on Youtube here).
