Film Courage: What draws you to a particular subject or story?

Rory Karpf, Producer: I try to find the relatability. I think everybody has a story and you don’t necessarily have to be interested in the subject matter. You mentioned you’re not into the sports but you could still somehow find that relatability of what the subject is and what not.

A lot of times in my work I’ll go back to childhood because that’s something that most everyone can relate to, everyone’s been a kid at some point and if they didn’t have an idyllic childhood, they wanted one, they longed for one, they longed for the love of a parent. So instantly when you hear about someone being a kid, I feel like you can relate to them better, relate to that lack of control over your own life as a child that you don’t have, even if you had a great life you really don’t have much control of it.

A lot of my work has gone back to childhood or to vulnerability and trying to humanize subjects. You hear about that instant vulnerability and luckily he trusted me to talk about…(Watch the video interview on Youtube here).
