Film Courage: How much time should a filmmaker put into distribution versus pre-production or production?
Jeff Deverett, Film Producer, Entrepreneur, Writer, Director: Great question. In my world and my experience having made seven features it takes me about a year to make the movie by the time from idea to final delivery. That’s about a year. There’s about a month or two in idea development stage. There’s probably two to three months in financing. There is a month or two in pre-production. There is a month or two in production. SCIFI HORROR SEQUEL ‘MANDAO RETURNS‘ NOW STREAMING ON AMAZON PRIME
This is the third feature from Writer/Director Scott Dunn and Producer Gina Gomez Dunn. They successfully raised funds for the sequel via Kickstarter and managed to complete production only 2 days before all film productions shut down due to the pandemic. Because of the lockdowns, Scott Dunn had to tackle post-production by himself (editing, color correction, effects, and sound) and release the flick in time for the holidays.
