First Things An Editor Should Do When Starting A New Project — Lawrence Jordan, ACE

Film Courage: What are the first things an editor should do in setting up a new project or timeline?

Lawrence Jordan, ACE and Owner of Master The Workflow: Communicate with your assistant and lay out a plan with your assistant on how you like things done. Basically when you’re starting a film you show them how you like your project structured and how you like things laid out. After that it’s pretty much cutting. I have a certain way that I like my bins [software folder] laid out so I can start looking through the material.

Now I’ve sort of been on this preaching circuit of there is so much material nowadays. On the last film that I did we had almost 200 hours of source material for a 90-minute comedy. Organization is really key…(Watch the video interview on Youtube here).
