Do Horror Filmmakers Have It Easier? by David F. Sandberg

Film Courage: Do you think your jump from DIY to Hollywood would have happened if the genre that you chose was not horror? If it had been drama, something that was more family drama?

David F. Sandberg, Filmmaker (a.k.a. Ponysmasher on Youtube): I think that with drama you probably have even less money. You probably have to do more yourself and certainly you can’t really go straight into superhero movies or things like that. But yes, horror has always been kind of scrappy and we’re going to do it all together and fix it. So yes, I think so. 

Film Courage: In terms of the reception too here in the United States the way it’s communicated…I mean…more people are scared by the same things whereas dramas they play out differently, there will be a language barrier and some people don’t want to see dramas, it’s too depressing.

David: True, yes…which is kind of sad that at the moment it’s just mostly horror movies and…(Watch the video interview on Youtube here).
