Latvian Short Film UNCONDITIONAL – Struggles of Single Parenthood And Living In A Foreign Country

UNCONDITIONAL (or Berznosacjiuma In Latvian) is a short film that tells the story of an English man that moves to Latvia with his wife. Shortly after they have their first child, she passes away.

He decides to stay in order to raise his child as close to how he and his wife intended. With this, come the struggles of single parenthood and living in a foreign country.


The team behind ‘Unconditional’ is formed by a group of passionate and dedicated filmmakers from Latvia, Portugal and England, who are always looking to challenge themselves. The group have previously worked together on another film and are looking to push the boundaries and create their best film yet.

About the Filmmakers:

Director – Beate Šneidere is a Latvian Director, Producer and Artist. She studied Advertising Design at Liepaja School of Music, Art and Design graduating in 2015. She moved to the United Kingdom to pursue a career in film making studying a BA in Film Production at Solent University Southampton. ‘Unfamiliar’ was her film festival directing debut. Beate’s work, in general, takes a broad inspiration from the slow cinema genre and she places heavyweight to the emotions that a piece of work she is producing makes her feel. She’s also one of the writers and producers of the film.    

Producer – José Freitas is a Portuguese film producer born in Porto. He’s the co-founder of Cavalinho na Chuva, a collective of filmmakers in the north of Portugal that gives more opportunities to creators that want to get in the Portuguese film scheme ‘Unconditional’ it’s his second collaboration with Beate Sneidere.

Director of Photography – Daniel Sarpong is a young Cinematographer with camera and lighting experience on a wide range of productions. He has worked as a Director of Photography, Camera Operator, Focus Puller and Best Boy on various shorts, features and music videos. Daniel has DP’d six short films with his last two currently in the film festival circuit. He’s also one of the writers and producers of the film. You can see some of Daniel’s work below.  

Art Director – Linda Vilka is a young award-winning multidisciplinary artist from Latvia. She expresses herself through various creative fields including interior design, graphic design, visual merchandising, installation art and storytelling through mixed media.  She has won awards such as Medal of Excellence at WorldSkills 2017 Abu Dhabi and Silver Medal in Visual Merchandising – EuroSkills 2016 Gothenburg.    

Editor – Wilfred Harrison Pettit is a British filmmaker from East Sussex. Lately, he’s been collaborating with Beate Sneidere as her main editor. His editing style both complements the directors’ style of cinema and builds on the emotions created in the image. 

Head of Sound – Adam Jay Loxton is a British Filmmaker with a passion for Sound Design. He has worked on various short films as a Sound Recordist and/or Sound Designer. He frequently explores the creative uses of Sound while also practising sound design. Adam is our Head of Sound.
