Zooppa and Nickelodeon are inviting filmmakers and motion graphic artists from around the world to reimagine Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) on a global scale through depicting what they are up to in various home towns or cities.
Film Courage: What is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Heroes Around the World Project?
Zooppa: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) are brothers who live in NYC, love to eat pizza, are pop culture consumers, and use weapons to fight evil and defend their city. The Turtles have become extremely relatable and we know people have a strong connection to the brand. While TMNT has both domestic and global appeal, we rarely see the Turtles in action outside of NYC. Therefore, Nickelodeon and Zooppa invites artists and creatives from around the world to reimagine TMNT. Create fun, engaging, and unique videos (30 seconds – 2 minutes) that bring TMNT to life on a global level by showing us what they are up to in your home town or city.

Film Courage: Who is the ideal person to submit?
Zooppa: An imaginative and fun filmmaker that is inspired by their city or hometown. The ideal person is a fan of TMNT and can capture the craze.
Film Courage: Is there an age limit for submitters?
Zooppa: You must be 18 or older to submit to this project.
Film Courage: What type of art/images is this contest looking for?
Zooppa: Nickelodeon is looking for videos––animated OR live action––that show how the Turtles would come to life where you would live. Videos should feel like an imaginative “what if” story––please avoid creating a commercial for TMNT no matter how tempting it is! You also use stock photos or videos to help tell your story or even parody the turtles.
Film Courage: The contest talks about “bringing TMNT to life on a global level using localized pop culture art forms and iconic locations around the world to create new, unique stories featuring the Turtles.” Can you share what this entails?
Zooppa: Nickelodeon is looking for authentic stories about what the Turtles would do when they are not in NYC. They want you to embrace how TMNT is interpreted throughout the world and how it resonates across generations and cultures. Some examples would be TMNT in Bollywood or Carnival.
Film Courage: Is there a deadline to submit the project?

Film Courage: Do’s and don’ts artists should know about before making or submitting their work?
-Video should be 30 seconds – 2 minutes.
-Leave 3 seconds of blank space at the beginning and at the end of your video, as Nickelodeon may add entry and end frames at a later date. Your audio should not run through the blank seconds.
-Use English only. It’s okay to not have any voice over too.
-Provide talent releases for any recognizable talent that appears in your video. Blank talent releases are available for download in the project materials. Please attach your filled out talent releases to your submission at the time of upload.
-Provide audio licenses for all music used in your video. Blank audio licenses are available for download in the project materials. Please attach your filled out audio licenses to your submission at the time of upload.
-Submit the script for your video either by attaching a document to your submission at the time of upload or by sending your script directly to email@example.com.
-Be creative! Select a filmmaking style that allows you to best tell the story of what the Turtle’s are up to in your home town.
-When uploading your submission, you must fill out and attach the required IP Assignment form in order for your upload to go through. IP Assignment forms are also available for download in the Materials.
-If showing trademarked landmarks in your video, please feel free to use stock in order to avoid copyright issues.
-Do not include any licensed TMNT products or toys
-Do not show any logo or brands in your videos
-Content produced should not feel or look like a commercial
-Do not run audio over the 3 blank seconds at the beginning and end of your video
Film Courage: What are some things someone should prepare for before entering the contest? How should contestants better prepare themselves?
Zooppa: Be sure to follow the brief pretty closely. For those of you that have a creative idea that is outside of the brief, we recommend creating two versions—one that matches the requirements and one that is your ideal submission! It’s a good idea to have your actors fill out the talent releases in advance so you save time later. If you’d like your concept reviewed before filming, feel free to send it to firstname.lastname@example.org. Feel free to write on Zooppa’s forums for any questions you may have.
Film Courage: What types of prizes are available?
Zooppa: There are a total of $25,000 cash awards available.
Film Courage: Will there be only one winner?
Zooppa: There are $25,000 cash awards available to the top 10 videos. $8,000 for first place; $4,000 for second; $3,500 for third; $2,500 for fourth; $1,500 for fifth and sixth; and $1,000 for seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth place.
