My name is Noelle Stewart and I am thrilled to announce the premiere of my new webseries: Mary Pillard with Safe Circle Productions, starting on May 12th, 2014 and running through May 17th, 2014. Please check it out here at at Safecircleproductions.com.
Mary Pillard, is a City Council woman from the great state of Missouri, eager to become the next president of the United States. With thirteen votes and counting she is beginning her 2014 run in New York City. With her family in tow she is determined to show New Yorkers her political prowess and prove that she can run the country.
As a recent graduate of the New School for Drama in Acting, I was encouraged to create my own work. Mary Pillard the webseries is my creation and response to a flawed political system. No matter what your politics, I think we can all agree our system is losing its credibility. The real dream, to stand by your beliefs and still get elected, is slipping away. With Mary Pillard I wanted to comment on the futility felt by trying to change the political system, while still celebrating the incredible possibility it continues to offer us to really affect change.
When I started the process of creating something dealing with this dilemma, I found Mary Pillard first. She was a politician who was underqualified in experience but overqualified in enthusiasm. She literally would not take no for an answer. I started with a couple of stump speeches. I played with how a politician placates their audience while still trying to “stand” for one or two things. The idea started to snowball when I created her first political ad.
I was lucky enough, in 2013, to work with Andreas Damm and Jacob-Sebastian Phillips on Prepare: Zombie Apocalypse and their production company Safe Circle Productions. When they offered me my own small 5 episode series I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I created the storyline and characters surrounding Mary Pillard. I wanted it to be like a documentary because this not only lets you know how serious she took herself, but also created room for a lot improv. I created scenarios for each episode that were then filled in by the actors. I wanted each person to truly become their characters and be able to contribute fully to the final product.
In the end I couldn’t be happier or more proud of the product. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the actors and artists that helped create Mary Pillard: Andreas Damm, Jacob-Sebastian Phillips, Mariah Freda, Michelle Marie Trester, Daliya Karnofsky, Sam Reeder, Jim Anderson, Melody Gray, Jessica Ranville, Tom Preece, and Simon Winheld.
I hope you enjoy Mary Pillard: the webseries.
